He quotes Mr. Armitage as telling former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell that he’s baffled by President Bush’s reluctance to make adjustments in his conduct of the war.
“Has he thought this through?� Mr. Armitage asks. “What the president says in effect is, We’ve got to press on in honor of the memory of those who have fallen. Another way to say that is we’ve got to have more men fall to honor the memories of those who have already fallen.�

Associated Press - This is now a full scale Republican political scandal. How many more kids were victimized by Foley and/or others while the GOP leadership covered up their actions?
He’ll be going to prison for breaking the laws he wrote. A hero of the Christian Right, Foley was a sexual predator and used the internet to further his schemes, a violation of his own anti-predator laws. And when he was first confronted with it just yesterday, his fellow Republicans called the story a “smear” and issued blanket denials, saying that his Congressional race opponent was responsible:
Jason Kello, a spokesman for Foley’s campaign, portrayed the controversy as a political attack.
“There have not been any allegations made by ANYONE except by Tim Mahoney and the Democrats who are attempting to misrepresent a series of innocent communications to prop up a failing political campaign,” Kello said in a statement. “This is nothing more than a political attack and an attempt at the worst kind of character assassination.”

In which Woodward desperately tries to save his reputation by turning on Bush, with a 537-page blast of dirt. New York Times has one version; but the AP quotes the book as saying that Kissinger has been advising Cheney and Bush for years, and that they’ve been grossly lying about the number of attacks on US troops (it’s really 100 or more). This book is going to make a really big splash, starting with the 60 Minutes interview this Sunday.

When this passes later today, the US Senate is doing no less ratifying the power of a dictator and giving it to the President of the United States. He will be able to send the military to search US citizens’ homes without a warrant, arrest them without court hearings or chance to prove there has been a mistake, and then try them in a military tribunal without the citizen having access to the evidence against them. The entire law is unconstitutional on its face.
